The Steampunk Experiment
MIXED MEDIA, ARTIST
The steampunk aesthetic is one of my greatest sources of inspiration. Here is an attempt at integrating steampunk with something rather namesake: the-saurus.
THE STORY
I had just begun freelance work full-swing in 2015, when a beloved friend and fellow artist brought up the importance of fostering partnerships through shared dreams and projects. Intrigued, we picked a potential festival we could enter, studied the theme, and begun the brainstorming process—which never ended. (Creatives everywhere are familiar with the cyclical nature of brainstorming, and how that often drains the joy of starting something new.)
When I was about to throw in the towel, she said something which changed my perspective; words which I hold dear till today:
"Why don't you just think about doing what you like?"
And so began the journey of mashing up ancient giant lizards with gears and scrap metal.
(Random kitty appeared along the way, long before I bowed to the claws of the feline god. Now I am a hapless slave of the felid species.)
